About Langhe Property

The help you need to buy a home in Piedmont, Italy
Richard Edwards, property expert of Langhe Property real estate consultant
Putting People First

My name is Richard Edwards. I was born in London, England, and come from a richly mixed background of Italian, Maltese, Welsh, Irish, and American heritage. That blend of cultures has shaped both who I am and how I relate to people from all walks of life.

In April 2002, my wife Urszula, our six-year-old son, and we made a life-changing decision. Tired of the pace and pressures of life in the UK, we chose not just a change of address, but a complete change of lifestyle. We left our small rented cottage just south of Bath, packed everything we owned into a well-worn ex-military green van, and drove 900 miles (1,400 km) to Piemonte—without hesitation and without looking back.

Moving to Piedmont

Our first Italian home was a modest fourth-floor apartment in Torino, without a lift. While it introduced us to city life in Italy, we soon realised we were longing for peace, space, and nature. That search led us to where we live today: the beautiful countryside of Roero, just 40 minutes south-east of Turin and 25 minutes north of Alba.

Roero is an extraordinary area, renowned for its wines, hazelnuts, peaches, honey, and breathtaking landscapes. We live on the edge of Le Rocche, a dramatic zone of hills carved by ancient seawater thousands of years ago—something still visible today in the seashells and fossils found high above sea level. The ever-present views of the Alps continue to inspire us, and we feel perfectly placed, both geographically and emotionally.

Having made this journey myself, I understand what it means to relocate, to start again, and to put down roots in a new country. That experience is at the heart of how I work: with care, honesty, and a genuine commitment to putting people first.

How It All Began in Piedmont Real Estate

When we first bought our home in Piedmont, the process was far from straightforward. The local agency we worked with offered little guidance, minimal transparency, and few explanations. Even simple steps felt unnecessarily complicated. Without the support of trusted local friends, completing the purchase would have been extremely difficult.

That experience stayed with me—and ultimately shaped the way I work today.

We have now lived in our home for over 20 years. It is not only where we live, but where we create. My office and studio are here, and there is always a new project underway. At the moment, we are redesigning our main bedroom, and our next venture will be converting the old hayloft into a dedicated studio for video production and music.

Background & Professional Experience

My professional background is in photography, graphic design, website design, teaching, and public speaking. Before moving to Italy, I worked in the UK with internationally recognised names such as Liz Mitchell (Boney M singer), Peter Gabriel, Chris Anderson (TED Talks) and many others.

My work has been featured in newspapers, magazines, and television in both the UK and the United States. Today, I continue to collaborate internationally and am currently working with a US-based studio to produce a new series featuring people who have successfully bought homes in Piedmont.

This blend of creative experience, clear communication, and real-life property knowledge allows me to guide clients with empathy, precision, and honesty—especially those navigating the Italian property system for the first time.

Here are some of the media outlets and platforms where my work has been featured:

  • The Wall Street Journal
  • La Stampa
  • The New York Times
  • The Times of London
  • Decanter
  • Mansion Global
  • Italy magazine (UK)
  • UK TV 'A place in the sun'

Langhe Property & YouTube

Alongside my work in real estate, I run the Langhe Property YouTube channel to offer practical advice and honest insight to those considering a move to this extraordinary part of Italy. Creating high-quality, useful content takes far more time and effort than many people imagine — researching properties, working with owners, filming on location, managing sound and visuals, and then spending hours editing and writing. It's demanding work, but I truly enjoy it.

My goal is simple: to help you make informed decisions and avoid costly mistakes. I'm committed to producing even more helpful content in the year ahead—and to continuously improving along the way.

Assisting you

I am deeply passionate about what I do. Helping you find the right home in Piemonte gives me almost as much satisfaction as it gives you. I enjoy sharing stories, but above all, I value meeting people. Over the years, my work has connected me with individuals and families from all over the world.

When couples tell me, "We want to make a change," I understand exactly what they mean. My family and I made that leap ourselves, and we know both the challenges and the rewards that come with it. I am here to guide and support those who are ready to take that brave step and turn a dream into reality.

The people I meet are thoughtful, determined, and resilient. Simply considering such a move already says a lot about you. I look forward to hearing your story—and exploring together what might be possible.

Family life
Richard and Urszula

I have been married for 33 years. My wife, Urszula, is Polish, and we met in Berlin in 1990 — just six months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was a chance meeting during an extraordinary moment in history, in one of the most vibrant cities in the world at that time. Urszula is an essential part of our success, and we support each other in everything we do.

Our son, Alex, was six years old when we moved to Italy. Like many children, his first year of school was challenging, but he adapted, persevered, and went on to study video production and graphic design. After finishing school, he qualified as a real estate agent, becoming one of the youngest in Italy. While real estate wasn't ultimately his path, he is now a programmer and remains a great support to me — especially when technology challenges this Generation X agent. And I'm always too busy listening to The Who..
